The largest post-pandemic MSP camp gathers 200 girls from five schools for three days of empowerment and development.
LENGGENG (Negeri Sembilan), July 29, 2024 – RYTHM Foundation, the social impact initiative of the global conglomerate QI Group, recently hosted its most extensive Maharani School Programme (MSP) Camp for adolescent girls since the onset of the pandemic.
This three-day camp, which concluded on Sunday (June 28), gathered 200 Form 3 students from the five participating secondary schools in the Seremban district: SMK Dato’ Kelana Putra, SMK Dato’ Shahardin, SMK Felda Seri Sendayan, SMK Mantin, and SMK Puteri.
Endorsed by the Ministry of Education, the MSP empowers adolescent girls with academic support and personal development to build their confidence and leadership skills and nurture their potential.
Santhi Periasamy, the Head of RYTHM Foundation, and Noraini Md. Din, the Seremban Assistant District Education Officer, inaugurated the event.
“Hosting the largest Maharani School Programme Camp since the pandemic is a key accomplishment for RYTHM Foundation,” said Santhi. “This camp reflects our unwavering commitment to empowering young girls by providing them with the necessary support and personal development opportunities to thrive and become future leaders.”
Negeri Sembilan is the second state after Selangor to adopt the flagship initiative, a milestone that underscores the MSP’s success and potential for broader implementation across Malaysia.
“Expanding the Maharani School Programme to Negeri Sembilan is a significant achievement for us,” Santhi said. “It has not only allowed us to reach more young girls in need of support but also demonstrates the programme’s growing recognition and success.”
She added, “By bringing the MSP to more schools, we can help more girls realise their full potential. It is a testament to our commitment to empowering young girls and positively impacting their lives.”
The camp engaged participants in various interactive indoor and outdoor sessions to enhance teamwork and personal development. The activities also focused on character-building, goal-setting, and critical thinking, setting the stage for the girls to recognise and nurture their potential.
The participants enthusiastically shared their positive experiences, highlighting the transformative impact of the activities and the supportive environment.
“This camp has been a life-changing experience for me. I’ve learned so much about teamwork and building my confidence,” said 15-year-old Nurul Afika Amirul.
“The activities were fun and challenging, and they helped me discover strengths I didn’t know I had,” the SMK Mantin student added.
The camp was an excellent experience for Thivyah Uthayakkumar of SMK Dato Shahardin. “It taught us valuable skills like goal-setting and critical thinking and encouraged us to support each other and work together. I feel more confident and ready to face any challenges that come my way.”
Impressed by the camp’s impact, the host school, SMK Dato’ Kelana Putra, also scheduled a motivational talk for all its students – including boys – on the first day. “The talk for the entire school was inspiring and a testament to the transformative power of the MSP,” Santhi said.
Since its introduction in 2010, the MSP has impacted over 8,000 students. The holistic programme is designed for 13- to 17-year-olds and prioritises students from B40 households. It aims to empower these young individuals to overcome challenges and succeed in their educational and personal lives through academic support and personal development initiatives.
