On 16 April, in honor of Women’s Month, QI Philippines went to Hospicio de San Jose in Manila for a special gathering with the grandmothers living in the shelter.
At the shelter, the volunteers bonded with the grandmothers, asking them about their hobbies and listening to stories about their lives before moving into the shelter. Apart from being fun to talk to, the grandmothers really poured out their hearts to the other volunteers, and the staff left having a deeper understanding of their situation – how lonely they sometimes feel and how much they miss their loved ones and their past lives outside the shelter.
After a day well spent, QI Philippines also gave each grandmother a parting gift set containing one piece of clothing, two pairs of underwear and a small plastic box wherein they can store precious memorabilia, much to the grandmothers’ joy and appreciation.
The main objective of the program was to create awareness among employees about the realities of human life and to teach them the value of caring for others, which they all wholeheartedly understood.
